I am sorry to miss this gathering, and to share the joys and the sorrows we have all experienced in our journey that started at Oak Bay so many years ago. Life takes us on interesting journey’s and we still have “many miles to go” before we sleep.
Since retiring as an arts administrator in School District #71 (Comox Valley) after 34.5 years of service, and overcoming obesity, high blood pressure and kidney issues, I have pursued my life-long dream of visiting the countries that my father did when he was in the navy, world war II. They include Great Britain, India, Africa, Thailand, China, Philippine’s, Singapore, and Hong Kong. I have yet to visit Burma and Australia. To finance these trips, and to extend my stays, I have done volunteer teaching. Currently, I am completing my fourth year as a paid foreign expert in Fuzhou, Fujian, at the Agricultural and Forestry University of Fujian.
I have kept up my music, and perform on the ukulele regularly for my classes. The clarinet gets a good work out in the summer when I visit my good friends in the Kootenays where I spent almost 10 years as the music coordinator.
Currently, I am training Dishu Dog Boxing, southern Fujian Province style kung fu. I have been featured in the provincial Chinese Senior’s newspaper as a model for fitness and healthy lifestyle for seniors.
I love my life and this is the happiest time for me!! Hoping you all have found happiness and fulfillment in whatever you are doing……Helene
